Vodacom subscribers can send up to 20 Free SMSes every day (and 5 MMS messages) from the vodacom4me website.
Vodacom4me Free SMS
First you need to register your Vodacom cellphone number and then login from your PC to get access to the free SMS functionality.
Mouse-over the 'Messaging' button and then select SMS or MMS from the fade-in menu, click here the advertising page to skip the advert and you will be presented with the free messaging interface.
Type in your friend's number, write them and message and click send :) You can send up to 20 SMSes every day or 5 MMses per day.
You can also save contacts on the site and add them to a 'quick list' so that you don't have to type out numbers when you send messages.Other features include 'Auto Pop-up SMS' which opens the messages automatically on the recipients phone; 'Flashing SMS' - does what it says but only works on certain Nokia models; and 'Send this SMS on' - which allows you to set the time and day you would like the SMS to be sent.
You can add an SMS signature if you like, but use your space carefully, 'www.vodacom.co.za' is already appended to all SMS messages sent from Vodacom4me. You do have up to 431 characters, but your SMS will be split into 3 separate messages.
It has been reported that the Vodacom4me website will even send free SMS messages to Vodacom users who are travelling abroad and have activated SMS roaming.
Free SMS functionality is disabled on the mobile version of the Vodacom4me website, however there are several 'mobile gateways' such as Free082SMS that will allow you to login to Vodacom4me and send free SMS from your mobile phone.
