Cellphone contracts are not the best option for everyone. Pay as you go offers flexibility and allows you to manage your monthly cellphone bill spend more closely than a contract.
Cellphone contracts are not the best option for everyone. Pay as you go offers flexibility and allows you to manage your monthly cellphone bill spend more closely than a contract.
However, contracts have their advantages as well. You may get a handset thrown in and free minutes or SMSes. And I know of contracts with monthly fees of as little as R49 a month.
It always pays to read the fine print and ask about hidden costs (often not all the costs are lined out clearly). But you may find that if you analyse your cellphone useage patterns that it may make sense for you to get a contract and benefit from the phone and free talk time. You just need to be disciplined and use your phone during the times your are 'supposed to' / when you can get the benefits of your contract.
