iBurst provided South Africa with the first 1Mbps internet connection. While the burst of data are 'fast', the latency or time between bursts is relatively long making this type of internet not as suitable to low latency applications (such as VOIP and gaming) as ADSL.

iBurst's bandwidth is also relatively expensive, however, the benefits of not having to have a fixed line are attractive to many consumers. In areas where the coverage is good, there is minimal down time as connections are not suseptable to cable damage or lightning strikes etc...
